MARs entered May on a high note with several great results today at the Toronto Marathon,Half Marathon and 10K. In the marathon, Doug Neudorf and Kirsten Jewell both ran Boston qualifying times in 3:14:07 and 3:28:55 respectively placing 7th and 9th in their categories. Kirsten was 31st woman overall. Congratulations to Doug and Kirsten!
Leading the way today in the Half Marathon (3800 participants) once again was Kat Ahokas, who shattered her PR with a smoking fast 1:21:15, good for second woman overall. Big T (ime) Troy Cox was 8th overall and top Masters male in 1:15:28. Chris “lil Troy” Watson was nipping on his heels as 9th overall and second master male in 1:15:57. Mark Sinnige PR-ed by minutes running 1:20: 02. Tony The Runner Marra PR-ed in 1:26:43, placing 50th overall and 5th in his age category. Rebecca Francis PR-ed in 1:37:15, placing 11th in her age category and 38th overall female. Sharon Bennett, who has battled back from a long, miserable injury, ran 1:43:31, placing 18th in her age category. Brent Hauck had a great race, 1:32:49, placing 14th in his age category.
Several MARs runners taking part in Kat Ahokas’ SportLab running clinic competed today in the half or 10K. Stay posted for news from the SportLab on their races in the next few days. Congrats to all of our runners! Many are making their way to Ottawa Race Weekend at the end of May for the 10K, 1/2 or full marathon.
Not to be outdone by our Marathoners and Half Marathoners, Dan “The Danimal” Quigg completed a 50K trail race in New York State yesterday, covering the distance in 9:31 and placing 54th overall. Dan is a true inspiration. Big T has trouble running 2K on a trail without falling down so Dan’s accomplishments are truly amazing. Dan will go for a short easy run in late May when he completes the Ottawa Marathon! Below, Danimal rocks his MARs shirt.
