There’s no avoiding it. Winter is in full swing. We’ve been lucky so far to have less snow and less brutally cold weather so far this year. Still, it takes a bit of courage to get up early and run with headlamps on. Why not come and join us at 6:15 am those days. Koodos for all of you doing it Tuesday and Thursday mornings. For those who prefer to run in the afternoon our Thursday 5 pm runs are in full swing with good turnouts so far. When spring hits, we will also be running Thursday 5:30 pm Fun Runs each week from Hunter’s Bay Trail.Indoor Track Season is underway. The next race is Sunday January 31 at York University. Details of the race series can be found here. The next indoor races MARs plans to attend are the Ontario Indoor Masters Championships February 28, 2016 and The Canadian Masters Indoor Championships March 19 and 20, 2016. Indoor Track is almost like going on a hot holiday…..
The 2nd Annual Half MARsathon (and 10K) is Sunday March 6. Details can be found here.
MARs is going to The Around The Bay 30K (and relay) April 3 as well as the Toronto Half Marathon May 1. MARs is also supporting our local Band On The Run race. Because of this, club members receive a code for 20% discount on any race they register for.
MARs is ordering hoodies for interested members. The hoodies will have our logo and (if you want) a nickname on the back. Jess Sheppard will be taking orders. You can contact us through the website if you are interested or have questions. Price details to follow.
It is with sadness that MARs announces that we will not be returning to Craftsbury High School Camp this summer. Lynn Jennings is retiring as Head of Running Camps. That fact, plus the poor Canadian dollar, along with a $100US hike in fees this year make it a difficult trip to make.
But from the spoils of that disappointment, we are very excited to announce that MARs is partnering with the Town of Huntsville to run a 5 day Evening Cross Country Running Camp from Aug 22-26 inclusive. The camp will run from 5-8 pm with workouts followed by a healthy meal while runners have end of evening sessions on key topics on the science of endurance running. Participants will also get a MARs water bottle and a link to an informative Cross Country Running Handbook. What better way to get ready for the fall season or find out if XC is for you than to try this out. The camp will cost $130. Registration will happen through the Town of Huntsville. Check out the Spring/Summer Active Living Guide for details on sign up (should be out in March). The camp will likely be limited to 30 runners. If you have questions you can contact us through the website. The camp will welcome any runner (do not have to be a club member) 13 years or older. It is expected that anyone attending the camp can already run 5km/day by the time the camp commences on August 22.
See you on the roads….
