MARS Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer can be depressing……unless you love XC.  It’s not too late to start getting ready for a spectacular fall XC season on MARS.  Workouts continue Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:15 am and Sundays 7:30am.  Drop ins welcome with $5 and a downloaded/signed waiver.  Weekday workouts leave no one behind.  Long runs on Sunday are out and back with coffee and swim after.

With bad weather/thunder yesterday the MARS Tuesday Fun Run was canceled.  That did not stop intrepid runners Brian, Paul and Tony from completing both the 3000m and the mile at Conroy track, shaming MARS President Pierre Mikhail in the process.  We have decided to elevate them to honorary club presidents.

Next Tuesday’s Fun Run is 6pm at Hunter’s Bay Trail, with start at KWH Pipe parking area.

The fall XC series dates are below:

Taylor Creek 5K Cross Country – Sept 27 (leave 9 am, home by 6pm)

Muskoka Mud Run 4K or 9K  – October 3

Sunnybrook Park 8K – November 1 (leave 9 am, home by 6pm)

Ontario Cross Country Championships – Etobicoke – Nov 15

Canadian Cross Country Championships – Kingston ON – Nov 28

Any runner new to XC can run the Sept 27 or November 1 race for free (first race free only).  In addition, the club has booked two nights accomodations (Nov 27,28) in Kingston for the Canadian XC Championships.  We have 8 rooms with two queen beds each.  At a minimum we will have deeply discounted prices to stay and if we don’t need more than 8 rooms, our stay will be on the club.  We plan to have a club party Saturday night after the races.
