The first annual Chilly Hilly Half MARSathon was today, February 22. Turn out was good. Conditions were tough with slippery roads and a brutal headwind to go along with the brutal hills in the second half.
Mark Sinnige was first to cross the finish line but Troy Cox edged him with best overall time of 1:27:08. Kat Ahokas was first woman. Congratulations to Catherine Smith, Tina Steele, Troy, Mark, Pierre Mikhail, Katherine, Jess Sheppard, Tyler Thomson, Martina Morton, Carolyn Croxall, Sharon Bennett, Lia Kutzscher, Deanna Lavigne, Nicolle Howell and Jane Wolfe. Results can be found here.
For most of us training for Around The Bay and / or spring marathons this week is a Recovery Week with intensity remaining high but volume decreasing to allow us to improve. Tuesday will be an easy run and Thursday will be a Fartlek. Sunday’s run will be in Rosseau, departing from LCBO parking lot at 6:50.
Registrations continue for Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s High School XC Camp, departing Huntsville June 27 and returning July 4. Details can be found here.
It’s only five more weeks until Around The Bay. Keep training hard to see best results on race day!
Spring is just around the corner and when it arrives The MARS Fun Run Series will start Thursday April 30 at 5:30 pm. Each week we will have a fun race. Show up, lace up your shoes, race and go home (or to the pub!). Stay tuned for more details.
Finally, congratulations to Huntsville High School’s Nordic Ski Team. The team competed at OFSAA Championships in Sudbury on Thursday and Friday. The Senior Team won the Senior Combined OFSAA Championship with the Senior Girls placing 2nd in both their races. Many of these great athletes also run on the XC Running Team. Congratulations to the Hoyas.
See you on the roads…..
