The MARS Summer Program launched yesterday successfully. Despite heavy showers all day, things settled down in time for the 6 pm workout! MARS was happy to welcome our friends from TriMuskoka, who will be joining us for our Tuesday workouts, and leading core/strength training after the run each Tuesday. Thanks to Maddie for leading the suffering.
Yesterday’s workout was a tough track workout but everyone ran hard and got through it. To round out the rest of the MARS week, there will be 6:30 am Thursday Run For The Doug Time Trial at Conroy Track and Saturday 6:30 am long run, departing from 1027 East Walker Lake Drive (out and back down Limberlost) with recovery drinks and coffee afterwards. See Calendar tab for details. Join us!
Congratulations to all runners who ran at Band on the Run. This year’s race was a great success. Troy Cox won the 10km race. Jess Sheppard was the first woman in her 5K race. Katherine Ahokas was the first woman in the 1/2 Marathon. There were many other great performances.
It’s time to meet another MARSian. Chris Watson grew up in Muskoka. Chris joined the group for the first time in the middle of a hard blizzard workout this spring. The workout has been named “Yasso Blizzard 800s” and even Bart Yasso has approved of this name through twitter. Despite the conditions and the verbal abuse he received from the group, Chris keeps coming back for more. Let’s meet Chris:
Nicknames: “L’il Troy”, “Fastest Man on MARS”, “The New Doug”
Goals: Team President, Window Seat to Vancouver, “Making Troy cry when I beat him and then he moves to Sundridge and takes out a billboard that says “Fastest Man in Sundridge””
Rituals: Complaining about mileage and injuries even though he’s only 40 (wuss)
Favourite Race: Ottawa Evening Marathon August 2014; Boston Marathon 2015
MARS is selling its Retro Gear every Tuesday. We are calling this “Toonie Tuesdays”. MARS tech shirts with our old logo and running hats with logo will be sold for $2 (cash). All proceeds will go to the club. We will be planning new gear orders in August. All new gear is purchased through SportLab. See BLING tab for details.
MARS will accommodate drop in runners who are not members with a signed waiver for $5 cash. As our basic membership is only $20 it won’t take long to get your money’s worth with a membership!
MARS is providing support to the Huntsville Hoyas Invitational XC Race September 23, 2014. Please contact us if you are interested in helping on race day or with planning.
Our Executive met this week. Meeting minutes can be found here.
See you on the roads…..
