For those budding Masters Runners (age over 30), here are the details of our fall cross country season, starting with our rules:
Rules: All you require to participate is two feet and a heart, and even those are negotiable. Why not try something new? You’ll never experience anything as exciting as a Cross Country race!
Workouts: Beginning Tuesday September 10, we will do a workout 6:30-8 am meeting at Conroy Track. The workout will be in the area between the track and Camp Kitchen so no one really will ever be too far away.
Easy Runs: Every Friday at 6:45-7:45 am we will have a group easy run departing from Conroy Track
5Km Time Trials: Most Masters Cross Country Races are 5Km, including the Ontario Championships. We have scheduled two Time Trials as practice at that distance. They will be held Thursday October 10 and Thursday October 17. We will meet at 6:30 am at Conroy Track and jog the route. Then, at 7 am sharp the Time Trial begins. There will be prizes!
Races: The goal race is Sunday November 17 at Ontario Cross Country Championships. This sounds intimidating but in the Masters category a whole range of abilities participate and no qualification is necessary. The distance is 5Km. Information on the event will follow this fall. The other races MARS would like to participate in are:
1. Sunday September 29 at 1 pm at Taylor Creek in Toronto, 5Km
2. Muskoka Mud Run 5 or 9 Km, Saturday October 5, Bracebridge http://www.muskokamudrun.org/index.html
3. Sunday November 3 at 1 pm at Sunnybrook Park, Toronto, 8Km
For information about races 1. and 3. go to http://ontariomasters.ca/competitions/cross-country/. As the races approach, the registration information appears at the site. MARS would drive down the same day to these two events.
See you out there running.
